About

We are situated 100 miles north of Anchorage, and just south of Talkeetna, the historic village nestled at the base of Denali (Mt. McKinely). Our facilities comprise 80 acres of homesteaded land including a time-honored California ranch style home to accommodate artists. Work space is ample, spanning a shared studio space, and half a century of homesteader’s wares and woes.

Up to six artists will arrive each session through the Anchorage International Airport and begin their time in Alaska traveling two hours north to The Homestead AK in the company of their newest colleagues. After we arrive, it often takes a few days to adjust as our bodies and minds catch up with each other in this new environment, so we begin with a tour of the land and some time to get to know one another.

But it isn’t long until work begins, artists create, and practices begin to mingle. We come together for dinner each night, unwinding, and sharing the experiences of our day. With abundant light, we often return to working on our projects, or simply enjoy time in conversation and relaxation.
